Professionalism and class agree on respect and an appropriate amount of discretion. It is simply not necessary to yell in order to be heard. As a female working in the male dominated tech industry, I have found that most geeks go out of their way to not be offensive. Tech is one of the very few industries that truly only care about whether or not a person has the necessary skill set to do the job, regardless of sex, race, age, social status, body piercings, pressed trousers, or perfect hygiene. Instead of being hypersensitive and assume the comments were sexual or even remotely directed at her, she should have made sure she didn’t take something out of context. Female/male adapters, motherboards, floppy drives, joystick, plug and play…almost any word can become a double entendre. Being offended is a choice.
